Indian Oil Corporation Limited is hiring Graduate Engineers, Officers, Assistant Quality Control Officers and Diploma Engineers through a Computer Based Test. Applications are open from 14 August to 3 September 2026, and the CBT is on 24 September 2026.
IOCL Recruitment 2026 is a notification by Indian Oil Corporation Limited for 470 Executive vacancies — 411 in Grade A, 9 in Grade A0 and 50 in Grade E0. Online applications run from 14 August 2026 to 3 September 2026 (1700 hrs) on www.iocl.com. Selection is through a 100-question Computer Based Test on 24 September 2026, followed by Group Discussion, Group Task and Personal Interview. The application fee is ₹1,000 + GST, waived for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Grade A officers start at ₹50,000 basic pay with an approximate CTC of ₹18.4 lakh per annum.
The whole 31-page notification walked through end to end — vacancy split, eligibility traps, exam pattern, sectional cut-offs and how to plan the next 40 days.
Every PSU and Bank IT notification broken down the same way — 44,000+ aspirants already following.
Computer Science and IT has the smallest Grade A intake of any engineering discipline — 22 posts against an applicant pool that runs into tens of thousands. Generic PSU mocks will not prepare you for that ratio. This test series is built to the exact IOCL CBT blueprint: 100 questions, two fixed sections, 150 minutes, −0.25 negative marking.
Designed by Piyush Wairale, M.Tech IIT Madras · ex-Instructor, IIT Madras BS Degree Programme

PwBD reservation is horizontal. 60 of the 470 posts are earmarked for candidates with benchmark disabilities — 55 in Grade A, 1 in Grade A0 and 4 in Grade E0 — spread across VI, HI, LD and multiple-disability categories. These are carved out of the totals above, not added to them. PwBD candidates are not eligible for the Safety post in Grade E0 because of the hazardous job role.
22 posts in Computer Science and IT. Of the 411 Grade A vacancies, CS & IT is the second-smallest engineering allocation — 11 UR, 2 EWS, 4 OBC (NCL), 3 SC and 2 ST. At that intake, the shortlisting cut-off sits far above the 45% qualifying mark, and a two- or three-mark gap decides the list.
Practise at that cut-off — CS & IT Test Series →All qualifications must be full-time and regular. Part-time, correspondence, distance and online-mode degrees are not accepted for any post.
| Post & grade | Qualifying degree | Minimum marks |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate Engineer GRADE A | B.Tech / BE / equivalent in Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & IT, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation or Mechanical | 65% — Gen / EWS / OBC (NCL) 55% — SC / ST / PwBD |
| Officer (Marketing) GRADE A | 2-year full-time MBA or PGDBA (AIU-equivalent) with specialisation in Marketing Management, stated on the final degree certificate | 60% — Gen / EWS / OBC (NCL) 55% — SC / ST / PwBD |
| Law Officer GRADE A | Graduation in any discipline + LLB, or a 5-year integrated LLB. Degree must be recognised by the Bar Council of India. 2 years post-qualification legal experience required. | 60% in each degree — Gen / EWS / OBC (NCL) 55% — SC / ST / PwBD |
| Assistant Quality Control Officer GRADE A0 | M.Sc in Chemistry, Inorganic, Organic, Analytical, Physical, Applied or Industrial Chemistry. 2 years post-qualification lab experience required. Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Toxicology and Food Technology are not accepted. | 60% — Gen / EWS / OBC (NCL) 55% — SC / ST / PwBD |
| Diploma Engineer GRADE E0 | 3-year full-time Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or (for Safety) an eligible engineering diploma plus a Diploma in Industrial Safety of at least 1 year | 65% — Gen / EWS / OBC (NCL) 55% — SC / ST / PwBD |
Any BE/B.Tech or diploma in a combined, integrated or inter-disciplinary branch — Mechatronics, Robotics and similar — is explicitly excluded, even if the syllabus overlaps with Mechanical or Electrical.
Diploma Engineer applicants holding BE, B.Tech, MBA, CA, CS, CMA, MCA or PhD are not eligible. Hiding a higher qualification leads to cancellation at any stage, including after joining.
CGPA is converted using your institute's own formula and the resulting fraction is never rounded up. Carry the conversion certificate to document verification.
For a dual degree (two separate certificates), only the BE/B.Tech percentage counts. For an integrated M.Tech (single degree), the overall M.Tech percentage counts. Both marksheets are needed by 30 September 2026.
Age is reckoned as on 1 July 2026. Only the Matriculation or Higher Secondary certificate is accepted as proof of date of birth.
| Post | Gen / EWS | OBC (NCL) | SC / ST | PwBD (Gen) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Graduate Engineer (Grade A) | 26 yrs | 29 yrs | 31 yrs | 36 yrs |
| Diploma Engineer (Grade E0) | 26 yrs | 29 yrs | 31 yrs | 36 yrs |
| Officer (Marketing) | 28 yrs | 31 yrs | 33 yrs | 38 yrs |
| Law Officer & Asst. QC Officer | 30 yrs | 33 yrs | 35 yrs | 40 yrs |
Cut-off birth dates in the official notification: Graduate/Diploma Engineer — born on or after 01.07.2000 (Gen/EWS), 01.07.1997 (OBC-NCL), 01.07.1995 (SC/ST). Ex-servicemen relaxation follows extant Government of India guidelines.
Payable by General, EWS and OBC (NCL) candidates. Non-refundable, and chargebacks cannot be claimed. Pay via debit card, credit card, net banking, IMPS, wallet or UPI.
SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay nothing. SC, ST and PwBD candidates who appear for the CBT are also reimbursed 3rd AC rail fare, subject to a minimum distance of 30 km.
100 objective questions, 150 minutes, sectional timing. Section A is attempted first and cannot be revisited once Section B begins.
| Section | Subject | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A — General Aptitude | Quantitative Aptitude | 20 | 20 | 60 min (whole section) |
| Logical Reasoning | 15 | 15 | ||
| Verbal Ability (English) | 15 | 15 | ||
| B — Domain | Domain Knowledge (your discipline) | 50 | 50 | 90 min |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 150 min | |
You must clear both the sectional minimum and the overall minimum. Clearing the CBT does not by itself guarantee a GD/GT/PI call — shortlisting is by rank within your domain.
| Category | Min. Section A | Min. Section B | Min. overall | Composite score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General / EWS / OBC (NCL) | 40% | 40% | 45% | 45% |
| SC / ST | 35% | 35% | 40% | 40% |
| PwBD | 25% | 25% | 30% | 30% |
The written test carries 85 of every 100 composite marks. Practically, the CBT decides your selection — the interview stages exist mostly to filter, not to reorder the merit list.
IOCL publishes a discipline-wise syllabus alongside the advertisement. Section A is common to every post; Section B follows your degree branch and tracks GATE-level fundamentals without the numerical depth.
Quantitative Aptitude — number system, percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time-speed-distance, time and work, averages, mixtures, permutation and combination, probability, mensuration, data interpretation.
Logical Reasoning — series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, syllogism, seating arrangement, puzzles, statement and assumption, analogy, classification, data sufficiency.
Verbal Ability — reading comprehension, cloze test, para jumbles, error spotting, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, vocabulary.
Mechanical — thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, strength of materials, theory of machines, manufacturing, IC engines, refrigeration, industrial engineering.
Electrical — circuit theory, electrical machines, power systems, control systems, measurements, power electronics, electromagnetic fields.
Computer Science & IT — data structures, algorithms, operating systems, DBMS, computer networks, computer organisation, theory of computation, software engineering, programming in C, cyber security basics.
Civil — structural analysis, RCC and steel design, geotechnical, fluid mechanics, transportation, environmental engineering, surveying, construction management.
Chemical, E&C, Instrumentation, Law, Marketing and Chemistry follow their own core-subject lists in the official syllabus PDF.
The topic lists above are compiled from the official syllabus document and past IOCL CBT papers. Always cross-check against the syllabus PDF hosted with the advertisement on iocl.com.
Most CS & IT candidates know the subjects. What separates the shortlist is finishing 50 aptitude questions in 60 minutes without leaking marks to negative marking, then switching cleanly into 50 domain questions. That is a trained skill, not a knowledge gap — and the only way to build it is repeated full-length attempts in the real format.
Start full-length IOCL CS & IT mocks →Basic pay plus dearness allowance, HRA or subsidised housing, medical cover, PF, gratuity, LTC and performance related pay.
| Induction grade | Initial basic (per month) | Pay scale | Approx. CTC p.a. |

| Grade E0 | ₹30,000 | ₹30,000 – 1,20,000 | ₹11.1 lakh |
Grade A: ₹3,00,000 for General, ₹50,000 for EWS, OBC (NCL), SC, ST and PwBD. · Grade A0 and E0: ₹2,00,000 for General, ₹35,000 for reserved categories. Posting can be anywhere in India, including subsidiaries, joint ventures and overseas offices.
Applications are accepted only through www.iocl.com. Once you click Complete Registration, nothing can be edited — not your category, not your name spelling, not your email.
Photograph 4.5 × 3.5 cm taken in April 2026 or later (200 × 230 px, 20–50 KB), signature in black ink (140 × 60 px, 10–20 KB) and left thumb impression (240 × 240 px at 200 DPI, 20–50 KB). All in JPG or JPEG. A signature in capital letters is rejected.
Go to iocl.com → Latest Job Opening → Apply Online → New Registration. Save the provisional registration number and password the system generates. The email ID and mobile number you enter cannot be changed later, so use ones you will keep active for at least a year.
Besides the uploaded photograph, the portal captures a live photo through your webcam or via a QR code on your phone. Your appearance on GD/GT/PI day should match both. Use Save and Next to preserve progress.
Choices are final once submitted and cannot be changed. IOCL may still allot a different centre based on capacity.
Verify everything on the Preview tab before clicking Complete Registration, then pay ₹1,000 + GST (SC/ST/PwBD exempt). No e-receipt means the payment failed — log back in and retry. Keep the generated PDF; do not post it to IOCL.
Carry the call letter plus an original and photocopy of a valid photo ID — PAN, Passport, permanent driving licence, Voter ID, Aadhaar or an institutional ID. Ration cards and learner's licences are not accepted. Reach before gate-closure time; latecomers are turned away.
Applications close 3 September 2026 at 1700 hrs.

You have roughly six weeks from the notification date. Here is how serious candidates should split them.
Section B is 50 of 100 marks and is where the spread happens. Revise your five highest-weight core subjects first, at concept-and-formula level rather than derivation level. IOCL asks broad, application-flavoured questions, not GATE-depth numericals.
50 aptitude questions in 60 minutes leaves 72 seconds each. Practise DI sets, arithmetic shortcuts and reading comprehension against a timer daily. This section is the cheapest place to gain 8–10 marks.
Take at least six full 150-minute mocks in the real sectional order. With −0.25 negative marking, track your accuracy: below 70% accuracy, guessing costs more than it earns. Maintain an error log and revise only from it in the last four days.
470 Executive vacancies in total — 411 in Grade A, 9 in Grade A0 (Quality Control) and 50 in Grade E0 (Diploma Engineer). Mechanical has the most posts at 118, followed by Electrical (75), Civil (62) and Marketing (41). Computer Science and IT has 22 posts.
No. This recruitment runs entirely on IOCL's own Computer Based Test. Shortlisting for GD, GT and PI is done by ranking CBT marks out of 100 within each domain. A GATE score gives no advantage here.
Yes, provided you can produce the final degree or marksheet by 30 September 2026 and your aggregate across semesters declared so far meets the minimum percentage. If your final aggregate falls below the cut-off later, you will not be allowed to join.
No. Combined, integrated or inter-disciplinary branches such as Mechatronics and Robotics are explicitly excluded. Your degree certificate must name one of the disciplines listed in the advertisement — for example, Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) is accepted for the CS & IT domain, but a hybrid mechanical-electronics branch is not.
One application for one post only. If multiple applications are submitted, only the latest is considered and the earlier ones are rejected. Appearing more than once in the CBT for the same post cancels your candidature.
Only for two posts. Law Officer needs 2 years of post-qualification legal practice and Assistant Quality Control Officer needs 2 years in petroleum, petrochemical, polymer or fertiliser lab testing or an NABL-accredited chemical testing lab, both as on 30 June 2026. Internships, teaching and short-term training do not count. Graduate and Diploma Engineer posts need no experience.
No, neither. Centre preferences and category are final once submitted, and no request for change is entertained. Filling the wrong category means losing the relaxation and reservation attached to it, so verify carefully on the Preview tab before completing registration.
Shortlisted candidates go through document verification, then Group Discussion, Group Task and Personal Interview. Final selection also requires clearing the pre-employment medical examination. Selected candidates sign a three-year service bond and can be posted anywhere in India.
