2-Week SSC JE Mechanical Revision Plan (Before Paper 1)

Paper 1 starts on 2 November 2026. Here is how to use the notes and tests in the time left.

  1. Days 1 to 5: High-weight core. Revise Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Machine Design, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics from the notes. Take the subject-wise test the same day you revise each subject.
  2. Days 6 to 9: Scoring theory subjects. IC Engines, Steam Engineering, Compressors and Refrigeration, Production Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. These are fact-heavy and fast to revise, so aim for near-full accuracy.
  3. Days 10 to 13: Full-length mocks. One mock a day in a strict 2-hour slot. Spend as long analysing as attempting: list every wrong answer and re-read that topic in the notes.
  4. Days 14 to 16: Weak-area repair. Re-attempt subject tests where you scored lowest. Revise formula sheets, cycle diagrams and standard values daily.
  5. Day before the exam: Light revision of formulas and short notes only. No new topics. Sleep well.

Tip: With 0.25 negative marking in Paper 1, a wrong answer costs only a quarter of a right one, so an educated guess after eliminating even one option is worth taking. In Paper 2 (1 mark lost per wrong answer, 3 marks per right one) guess only when you can eliminate at least two options. Mocks are where you learn your safe-guess threshold.
