Selection process and exam pattern

Shortlisting happens first, purely on the documents uploaded at registration: professional experience proof, mandatory certification and education qualification. Nothing submitted later is accepted, so upload every certificate correctly the first time.

Online examination structure — composite time of 100 minutes
TestMaximum marksNature
English Language25Qualifying only; marks not added to the merit list
Professional Knowledge relevant to the post100Counted for merit; bilingual in English and Hindi
  • Negative marking: one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
  • Qualifying marks: 35% in each test for General and EWS; 5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates against reserved vacancies.
  • Interview: 100 marks. Minimum 50% for General and EWS, 45% for SC, ST, OBC and PWD. Call ratio is 1:3 to the number of vacancies.
  • Final weightage: 60:40 between the Professional Knowledge paper and the interview.
  • Tie-break: higher online exam marks first, then date of birth, with the older candidate ranked higher.

The notice reserves the Bank's right to select entirely through interview without holding the online test. Prepare for the written paper anyway, because the shortlisting cut is driven by exactly the same Professional Knowledge subjects that the interview panel probes.

Professional Knowledge syllabus

The paper is drawn from the skill columns of Annexure I reproduced above, so it is broader than a classic IBPS SO IT Officer paper. Across scales, the recurring topics are:

  • Core computer science: DBMS and SQL/PL-SQL, operating systems, computer networks, data structures and algorithms, software engineering and SDLC
  • Application engineering: Java and Spring Boot, microservices, React and TypeScript, REST and SOAP web services, OpenAPI and Swagger
  • Banking technology: core banking and Finacle operations, UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, BBPS, CBDC, NPCI stack, ISO 8583, ATM switch and card management
  • Information security: OWASP Top 10, OAuth2, JWT, SSL/TLS, AES and RSA, SIEM, WAF, DLP, VAPT tools, ISO 27001, NIST, MITRE ATT&CK
  • Cloud and DevSecOps: AWS and Azure services, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, observability
  • Data and AI: ETL and data warehousing, Spark and Kafka, MLOps, LLM API integration, RAG pipelines, vector databases
  • Governance and compliance: ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF, RBI IT and cyber security guidelines, RBI outsourcing directions, DPDP Act, GFR 2017

Prepare with the IT Officer Complete Package

The same Professional Knowledge syllabus runs across Bank of India SO, IBPS SO IT Officer, SBI SO, SEBI Grade A IT and PSU IT recruitments. Our complete package is built for exactly that overlap, so one preparation cycle covers every one of these exams.

  • Full subject coverage: DBMS, networking, operating systems, data structures, software engineering, information security, cloud, and emerging technology
  • Banking-technology modules on core banking, payment systems, UPI and NPCI rails, and RBI IT governance — the part generic CS material never covers
  • Topic-wise practice sets with detailed solutions, plus full-length mock tests in the actual exam pattern with negative marking
  • Previous year question banks from IBPS SO, SBI SO and PSU IT Officer papers, mapped to the topics that repeat
  • Taught by Piyush Wairale, M.Tech from IIT Madras, with a 44,000+ subscriber teaching channel and years of IT Officer question-bank work behind the material

Two more bank IT officer notifications are open right now

The Bank of India window overlaps with two other public sector bank recruitments. These are separate recruitments, so the one-application-per-candidate rule at Bank of India does not stop you from applying to the others. Both close before Bank of India does, so deal with them first.

Indian Overseas Bank SO 2026 — 110 IT vacancies

IOB is hiring across nine technology post codes: Manager (IT) with 65 posts, Senior Manager (IT), Information Security, IS Audit, Database Administrator, Network Administrator and Cyber Security Administrator. Age bands run from 22–32 up to 28–38, and experience requirements from 2 to 8 years. Basic pay is Rs. 64,820–93,960 in MMGS II and Rs. 85,920–1,05,280 in MMGS III.

Unlike Bank of India, IOB lets you apply for more than one post if you qualify for each, and it has already published its exam pattern — which makes it the one you can train for with mock tests.

UCO Bank SO 2026 — AI/ML and offensive security

A small, sharply targeted notification: 10 Manager – AI/ML Engineer and 10 Manager – Cyber Security posts, both MMGS-II, both 25–35 years and 3 years of experience. The cyber security post has a hard filter — you must already hold a valid OSCP, OSCE³, OSWE, OSEP, GIAC GPEN or GXPN, CAISP, or one of the SANS offensive-AI certifications.

Documents are uploaded at the application stage and screening happens on them, so a precisely worded experience certificate matters more here than mock test scores.

Read the full UCO Bank SO 2026 eligibility guide

Between the three notifications there are 303 technology vacancies closing within eleven days of each other, and they draw on the same Professional Knowledge core — networks, DBMS, operating systems, data structures, security and IT in banking. Prepare once, apply to all three. The IT Officer Course and Test Series covers that shared core, and the IOB-specific test series sits inside the same bundle.

25 September 2026. Applications open on 10 September 2026 and fee payment closes on the same last date.

173 of the 205 vacancies are technology roles. The remaining 32 are Law Officer (10), Fire Officer (2), Security Officer (10) and Civil Engineer (10).

Which certifications are mandatory?

It varies by post — the full list is in the certification cheat sheet above. Broadly: OCP Java, Meta Front-End, MERN or Python for full-stack roles; CISSP, CISM, CISA or CEH for information security and IS audit roles; Product Manager, SAFe, PRINCE2 or PMP for digital platform roles; and cloud, data or DBA certifications for the corresponding Scale III posts. Every mandatory certification must be within its validity period as on 1 August 2026.

Can a fresher apply for Bank of India SO 2026?

No. The minimum is one year of post-qualification experience in the IT or BFSI sector for Officer Scale I posts. Scale II needs three years, Scale III five years and Scale IV eight years.

Can I apply for two posts?

No. Only one application per candidate is allowed. If several are submitted, the Bank retains the latest completed application and forfeits the fee paid for the others.

Which post should I target with 3 to 5 years of experience?

Scale II Manager posts carry 118 of the 205 vacancies. Manager – Full-Stack Engineering (18), Manager – Infrastructure Operations (12) and Manager – Application Support & Operations (11) are the largest openings, and none of the three has a mandatory certification, so the entry barrier is lower than in the niche single-vacancy roles.

Does the English Language paper count in the merit list?

No. It is qualifying only. You still have to score at least 35% in it (30% for SC, ST, OBC and PWD against reserved vacancies), but the marks are not added to the final score.

Is there an interview even if the online test is held?

Yes. When both stages are conducted, the final merit uses a 60:40 weightage between the Professional Knowledge paper and the interview, and a candidate must clear both separately.

What happens if my uploaded documents are incomplete?

The application is rejected at shortlisting. The notice states clearly that no further enquiry or request for submitting documents at a later date will be accommodated.
