Information Technology Officer is one of seven Officer Scale-II Specialist Cadre posts recruited through the IBPS Common Recruitment Process for Regional Rural Banks. The designation on joining is Manager.

Who can apply?

A graduate in Electronics, Communication, Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent, with at least 50% marks in aggregate, plus one year of post-qualification experience in the relevant field.

Is there a prelims round?

No. Officer Scale-II and Scale-III go straight to a single level online examination, then interview. Only Scale-I and Office Assistant have a two-stage written process.

What does the exam look like?

240 questions for 200 marks in 150 minutes across seven sections, with Professional Knowledge carrying 40 questions and 40 marks. A quarter mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

How is the final selection made?

Single exam and interview combined in an 80:20 ratio. Up to three times the declared vacancies per category are called for interview.

What is the application fee?

Rs. 175 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates and Rs. 850 for everyone else, both inclusive of GST, paid online at ibps.in.

Where CRP RRBs-XV stands today

IBPS conducts one Common Recruitment Process for Regional Rural Banks each year. The 2026–27 cycle is the fifteenth edition, CRP RRBs-XV. The short notice fixes the registration window at 1 to 21 September 2026, with age and qualification reckoned as on 1 September 2026. The Officer Scale-II and Scale-III single level examination is listed for 20 December 2026, with interviews coordinated by the Nodal Regional Rural Bank with NABARD and IBPS, tentatively in January and February 2027.

What is not out yet is the detailed advertisement with the state-wise and bank-wise vacancy table. Until it appears, the structural detail below — eligibility wording, exam pattern, penalty, weightage — is taken from the CRP RRBs-XIV advertisement, which IBPS repeats with very little change from cycle to cycle. Treat it as a reliable planning basis, and verify against the XV advertisement before you pay the fee.

Eligibility: qualification and experience

Three things candidates get wrong on eligibility

• The 50% is on aggregate, not on the final year. IBPS computes it by dividing total marks obtained across all subjects in all semesters or years by the aggregate maximum marks, then multiplying by 100. Fractions are ignored, so 49.99% is treated as less than 50%.
• CGPA must be converted using your university's own norm, and you must be able to produce a certificate from the university stating that conversion norm at document verification.
• The result must be declared on or before the cut-off date, and you need proper documentation from the board or university proving that date. The date on the mark sheet or provisional certificate is what counts.

Application fee

Bank transaction charges for online payment are borne by the candidate. The fee is non-refundable. If IBPS opens a paid edit window after registration closes, that payment is separate.

Exam pattern for Officer Scale-II Specialist Cadre

This is the single most misunderstood part of the RRB IT Officer post. The Specialist Cadre paper is not the same as the General Banking Officer paper — it has seven sections instead of six, 240 questions instead of 200, and 150 minutes instead of 120, because Professional Knowledge is added on top.

• Choose English or Hindi for section 4, not both. Indicate the medium carefully in the application form.
• Sectional timing is fixed. You cannot carry unused minutes from Financial Awareness into Quantitative Aptitude. Each section locks when its clock runs out.
• Negative marking: 0.25 of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every wrong answer, across preliminary, main and single level examinations. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
• Marks are not one per question. Professional Knowledge, Reasoning, Financial Awareness and Quantitative Aptitude carry 1 mark per question; English or Hindi Language and Computer Knowledge carry 0.5.
• IBPS reserves the right to modify the structure, including duration, and will announce any change on ibps.in.

Section-by-section strategy

Look at where the marks sit before you decide how to spend your study hours. Four sections carry 40 marks each and two carry 20 each.

Professional Knowledge syllabus for RRB IT Officer

IBPS does not publish a topic list for Professional Knowledge. The reliable guide is the qualifying degree named in the eligibility criteria — Electronics, Communication, Computer Science and Information Technology — read together with the standard bank IT officer syllabus that SBI SO, IBPS SO and PSU papers follow. In practice the questions cluster here:

Cut-off, normalisation and merit

• Each candidate must obtain a minimum score in each test of the single level examination to be considered for shortlisting. Clearing individual sections is not enough on its own — the total score must also be high in order of merit.
• Candidates shortlisted for interview number up to three times the declared vacancies in each category, subject to availability.
• Corrected scores across different sessions, where multiple sessions are held, are normalised using the equi-percentile method, and calculations are taken to two decimal places.
• For Officer Scale-II, marks in the single level examination are used both for interview shortlisting and for final merit. Scores are not disclosed to shortlisted candidates before the interview process finishes.

Interview and provisional allotment

• Interviews are coordinated by the Nodal Regional Rural Bank with assistance from NABARD and IBPS.
• Total marks for the interview are 100, with minimum qualifying marks of 40%, relaxed to 35% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates.
• The relative weightage of online examination to interview is 80:20 for the officers cadre.
• A candidate must qualify in both the online examination and the interview, and rank sufficiently high in merit, to enter the provisional allotment process.
• Documents required at the interview include the call letter printout, the system-generated application form, proof of date of birth, photo ID, mark sheets and certificates with proof that the result was declared on or before the cut-off date, experience certificates, and category certificates where applicable.

IT Officer vacancies in the last cycle

The CRP RRBs-XV vacancy table is not out yet. The CRP RRBs-XIV distribution below is the best available guide to which Regional Rural Banks actually recruit IT Officers — and it is uneven. Sixteen of the 28 participating RRBs declared IT Officer vacancies; twelve declared none.

Two of the 90 posts were reserved horizontally for candidates with orthopaedic disability, one each at Karnataka Grameena Bank and Odisha Gramin Bank. The RRBs that reported no IT Officer vacancy in that cycle included Andhra Pradesh Grameena, Bihar Gramin, Himachal Pradesh Gramin, Jharkhand Rajya Gramin, Kerala Gramin, Madhya Pradesh Gramin, Maharashtra Gramin, Manipur Rural, Telangana Grameena, Tripura Gramin, Uttar Pradesh Gramin and West Bengal Gramin. That mix changes every cycle, so wait for the XV table before fixing your preference.

How to apply

1. Go to ibps.in, open the CRP for RRBs section and select the registration link for CRP-RRBs Officers (Scale-I, II and III).
2. Click new registration, enter your basic details, and note the provisional registration number and password the system generates.
3. Fill the form and choose your post, your preferred RRB and your medium of examination carefully — the language option for section 4 is exercised here.
4. Upload photograph, signature, left thumb impression and the handwritten declaration in the prescribed sizes, along with any documents IBPS asks for at this stage.
5. Pay the fee online by debit card, credit card, net banking, wallet or UPI, and save the e-receipt.
6. Verify everything before clicking complete registration. Use the edit window afterwards only if IBPS opens one.

Your name, category and date of birth as entered are treated as final. IBPS also runs a credit history check clause for officer posts, so candidates with unregularised loan or credit card defaults should read that section of the advertisement carefully before applying.
